Seagate Free Agent Pro 750, I have no idea what the actual drive part number is and not about to take apart a unit that has worked flawlessly since early June to find out.

When you post a working eSATA drive, please post the cable and source as well since there's been several reports of incompatible cables!

Seagate Free Agent 750gb to HR20-700 (Hard drive on sale for $194 at Costco FYI)

eSata cable from Monoprice, required cutting a bit of the rubber for secure fit to the drive. Works great!

Rosewill enclosures are listed in my signature, [newegg.com]. It comes with all the cables you need and it has a fan. I have one on each HR20.

The 500 GB Maxtor drives are slightly different models. One is a Maxtor 500 GB "Ultra16" SATA II LO1F500 [retail box/3 year warranty: staples.com].

The other is a "MaxLine Pro 500" 7H500F0 7200 RPM SATA II 3.0 Gb/S [OEM, 1 year warranty from Newegg.com]

They both seem to have the same specs.

I jumpered both down to SATA I. Is it necessary? I don't know.

7 months running without issue.

About 9 months without issue on the other.

OK, how come nobody warned me about the full length and height yellow light on the Seagate FreeAgent Pro? UPS delivered mine this evening, connected it up with SIIG CB-SA0111-S1 cable and it seems to be working fine... But that yellow light is a bit distracting!

Seagate 500GB; came with cable
Seagate Freeagent 750GB. No cable provided, but I forgot where I got it from.
I think the yellow light (looks more orange to me) looks great with the HR20 blue.

As I replaced my last two Hr10-250's on 7/18/07, I added a Seagate Pro 750 to one of them. I used a THERMALTAKE|A2361 R eSATA cable from NewEgg. I still can't belive that Best Buy and Comp USA don't stock such a simple cable. The install went without a hitch, just plug everything in and turn on the Seagate before you plug in the Hr20. I chose the Seagate Pro for this one as the price was good and the product is well spoken of in the forum.

eSATA cable is the only option as the HR20 only uses eSATA for external memory expansion. The USB cable would be for a computer use.

Well, it was working w/ my HR20-100 up until the HR20-100 decided to stop reading the access card. D* sent a refurb HR20-700; now the 750 GB FreeAgent Pro is working fine with it.

Interestingly enough, I expected the content on the eSATA drive to get wiped when I connected it to a different HR20, but it didn't. All my scheduled recordings and Season Links are still there and working. The stuff I had recorded was still there, but when I tried to play any of it, I got a message indicating the DVR was "Searching for authorized content..."

Can you tell us a little more about this setup? What is the model number of the drive? What enclosure, cable, etc? Are you happy with the drive so far? Hitachi has some amazing claims about this drive and I'm seeing some amazing prices for it.
