Peaking 119
I recently had my 5lnb slimline dish installed.
The signals from all the sats are very strong - high 80's to 90's except for 119 which are around 50's to 60's.
In good weather, there's no problem... but when it rains, I lose the 3 HD channels i receive off 119.
I have a few questions...
1. How will having poor reception on 119 affect me when the new sats carrying the HD content get launched?
2. My understanding is that 119 gets peaked by adjusting the tilt of the dish. Will adjusting the tilt affect reception on the other sats? i.e. If I tinker with the tilt, will I screw up anything else?
I installed my 2 LNB dish originally so I am comfortable making an adjustment to the dish to fix my problem. At the same time, I understand that re-peaking the other sats can be difficult without a signal meter so I don't want to mess up what's working well already.
Also, a more technical question...
3. Does the signal for 119 bounce off the left side or right side of the dish (when looking at the dish) before it hits the LNB for 119?
Just curious as my clear "window" in the sky to 119 might be obstructed.

Welcome!
See this link below. They are install videos explaining the whole process.

Some people will tell you not to do it yourself, others will say just be very careful and take your time. No one can tell it's "OK" to try adjusting it yourself. That of course is soley at your discretion.

This is the perfect week to check your dish's view of the various DirecTV satellites using the Sun's position in the sky. See the link in my signature below for more information.

I had the same issue where the signal on my 99 and 119 were very weak and in fog rain or snow I lost everything on the channels which includes half the nationals on the 119 and all of my locals. I had a tech come out and he re-adjusted for the 99 and the 119 and now even in the worst weather I get all of these channels. Not too sure about when spring comes but I will have to wait and see.
The channels on the 119 should all be moving to the 99 and the 103 aftet the new sats are launched.
If you try to do it yourself and muck things up just call D* and have them come out and fix it. If you have had them out there in the past 90 days for any reason at all this call will be free.

Litzdog,
Thanks for that info. I did a check today and it looks like I have a clear LOS to 119. Looks like I just need the dish peaked properly.
So does anyone know if adjusting the dish's tilt +/- a few degrees will affect the reception from the 99, 101, 103 and 110 sats?
Also, just curious... the dish has three visible LNB assemblies. Looking at the dish, which assembly is designed to receive signals from which sat?
