Should have used that spell checker! <- Kicking myself!
Spell check nor grammer check would have caught it, as finally is spelled and used correctly. What you typed just wasn't what you meant to type. I presumed you are just anxious to watch and see Romber lose so you are glad it is finally here.
Go Uchenna and Joyce. I placed a lot of maximum bets on you.
Warning: If your still reading a thread on the final epside, during or after the final episode has aired, and don't want to be spoiled...you deserve to be spoiled.
My comment was actually a play on a spoiler. Early on in the season, Sportsbook.com closed betting on the outcome of the race because they detected a betting anomaly. A number of new accounts were opened from the New England and California areas (media centers) within a 12 hour period and placed maximum bets on U/J. In the past there have been other betting spoilers that have always been correct. So I (as well as at least one other person) followed the money.
It wasn't a sure thing though. There obviously can be a first for everything. There also was compelling evidence that Romber may win as well as they are scheduled to appear on Regis and Kelly Live on Thursday. The winner would be on the Early Show tomorrow, so it could be logical to assume that the Thursday show would have the winners. Regis is produced by Touchstone Television, as is The Amazing Race. Touchstone is owned by Disney and Regis is live from Disney all this week. Putting two and two together, it's not hard to imagine that they could have easily pulled some strings to ensure they had the winner.
Well it sure seemed fixed. No way that plane re-opened its doors because two people wanted to get on. The producers had to have stepped in, called American Airlines or the pilots and asked them to get Uchenna and Joyce on, or the race was over. Really bugs me. I feel cheated now. They didn't deserve to win on that.

Well, I happen to agree with you, but I was just trying to be nice to avoid the Spoiler Police.
I will have to agree. This has happend before on the Amazing Race... Just when you don't think they can get one. A Airport Miracle occurs. I was hoping that U/J would win, however, something smelled fishy in Jameca Mon....
Hmmm.. I have always wondered how much a producer will manipulate a reality show to get the outcome they would like. Hmmm.. The final hour of this one makes one wonder.

It was PR, not Jamaica, but same difference. More then one person has posted over at Sucks that they have been on planes recently when something similar has happened and in one case, the plane had actually started being pushed away. I find it highly unlikely that U/J would have been allowed on the plane at such a late time, especially without tickets for that flight. I find it just as unlikly that Rob/Amber would have gotten tickets either. It will be interesting in the next couple of days or weeks to see if anything more comes out. I'm sure it will be asked about when Uchenna/Joyce or Rob/Amber make the talk show rounds.
Rob/Amber will probably have little to say about it. CBS is footing the bill for the wedding they just had and I have heard rumors of them in their own newlywed reality show with CBS.

There is on way that we can be 100% sure of this. Heck, CBS might have put the jetway retraction in just to make it seem more desperate.

I considered it too. It wouldn't be the first time that the producers have added footage that wasn't exactly part of the moment. Editing is what makes the show so popular, but also adds the ability to spin things and distort how things REALLY happened.
Well I just wanted to say "Jamica Mon".... Really was not sure what airport, but the Jamica Mon reference seemed appropriate given ever contestent used it. My personal opinion is that there has been too many Airport miracles on the show. If Rob and Amber would have been the only people to get on the flight, there would be no reason to watch the last hour. No race....
They had to get two teams arriving into the final city at the same time to make it a race. Something to me did not feel right watching it. Editing perhaps? maybe. As to actually cracking the plane open again, I am not sure how common that is. My guess after 9/11 not very common at all. Rob and Amber arrived when people were clearly boarding. They had tickets to the next flight and were on standbye. I could see them being let on. U/J were not on standby it was clear the doors were shut. A very different scenario.
This goes along the line of Survivor stating that all the challanges and twist in the game are preplanned before the show. Yeah right.

There was a spoiler at the begining of the current survivor season that actually showed a large bulletin board that had a layout of the general challenges and rewards for each episode. I don't know if it ended up being 100% accurate, but I beleive in the first half of the season it was for the most part right.
That does not mean they don't adjust as the show goes towards the end? Having watched all the seasons, I am convinced they make adjustments and they have multiple story lines they consider as the show progresses.
They may start with a story board, but my guess is that tweaks are done along the way to achieve what the producers want.
I agree editing is a big part, but I personally feel that the producers are not just editing to provide the story they want. I think in some cases they intervene and I believe they did with Amazing Race in this case.

There has to be something fishy as how the end of the race was shown. Either CBS faked the Plane part and they both made the flight legitimately or the producers pulled some strings. For U & J to get on after the doors closed would take a miracle. Remember this is Post 9/11 and Puerto Rico is a US Territory, so the airport should be under the jurisdiction of the FAA and Homeland Security and I wonder how many rules were broke if it did occur as shown. I also have a big question as to Rob and Amber leaving their Back Packs on the Plane, isn't that how Bombs are planted?
I also question U&J begging for money to pay their cab fare, just steps away from a million dollars. Although that is probably in their character, I wonder if they weren't told they had so many minutes before Romber arrived, so they knew they had time to 'earn' the fare for the cabbie.
Also, I can't think of any mistakes Romber made throughout the race, except at the very end they went the wrong way on foot and ended up losing. Makes me wonder if Romber was told they couldn't win. Just think of the outcry if they won. I for one, think they had an unfair advantage because of their previous reality 'celebrity'.
I have recieved many, many e-mails, most in agreement. Those who disagree that something fish was up, mostly just hated Rob and Amber. Some readers also pointed out other discrepencies that made them wonder what was up this season.

Was it in their character, or did they have to before they could enter? My thinking is that they had to pay the cabbie before they continued on. Trying to stiff him, especially since he already had indicated that he wanted paid and wasn't going to let it slide, would have been against the law. Contestants are not allowed to blatently break the law, like stealing, trespassing, etc. Things like speeding probably are looked down upon but they let slide.
I read somewhere, although I can't locate the source right off hand, that Romber were 45 minutes behind Joychenna. I don't know if that was the elapsed time from both teams reaching the mat, or from when the cab reached the Hobbie House and Joychenna use to find some more money.
One thing that did appear obvious is that contestants couldn't issue IOUs or explicitly mention Amazing Race.

They didn't make a lot of actual mistakes, they just made a few poor choices. A couple off the top of my head were sticking around at the Soweto cooling tower to see if Ray/Deana would finish, asking Team AARP if they got the earlier flight in India, and going the wrong way at the jump bridge in the final episode. I think that they would have made more mistakes if they didn't have a guide in several of the episodes. I don't like that they got a guide because they were recognized (Peru, South Africa), but if they got a guide that just wanted to help (India, London) then that is just part of the game. Other teams could have gotten guides as well.
The TAR forum over at the Survivor Sucks forum had the below post posted. It sheds some light as to the process that MIGHT have been followed. It doesn't confirm or deny that something fishy went on. Joychenna fans will still insist everything was legit. Romber fans will still cry foul. The thing is that we will never know unless someone who was actually there and involved with the situation speaks up, or possibly if we see unedited footage. Neither of which are likely to happen. The shot was edited to make it seem like a miracle happened. The producers wanted it to look that way. In reality if you had been there, it may have been nothing really...or it could have been something truly Amazing. Who knows.
My guess it was a combination of a little of timing, a little bit filming crew influence, and a little bit of luck, and a little bit of karma.
Quote:
A coworker of mine has a brother that works for US Air. We were at work today and talked about the race. We decided to call up his brother and ask him about boarding procedure. His brother actually works ticketing and often times works on the “boarding crews” as he called them.
Anyway, he isn’t a TAR fan so we had to give him the facts.
He said that reextending the jetway bridge (Im using his terminology) is done quite often. He says there are no FAA regulations regarding reextending the bridge.
He said that requests are made to the pilot and it’s the pilot’s call as to whether to reextend the bridge or take off. It is totally in the discretion of the pilot.
There are only 3 exceptions that overrule the pilot.
1. FAA has the ultimate control and can tell a pilot what to do and what not to do. However, the FAA, because there are no regulations on reextending the bridge, doesn’t have a say in that. He said that he guesses that the FAA could intervene if it was an emergency….but has never, ever seen the FAA get involved in such a matter.
2. The airport- if there is an airport emergency….the airport can dictate what the pilot does. However, the airport usually reports all concerns to the FAA who makes the call and discusses the concerns with pilots. He said that this usually involves ice on the runway, etc. He said that he considers this FAA involvement and not necessarily airport involvement but it can originate with the airport….so its technically them.
3. The airline. He said that the airline can tell a pilot what to do. (Obviously…its his employer). However, he said this is rare.
He said that the pilot has a great deal of discretion out of concern for the safety and comfort of his passengers. Boarding crews can’t tell him what to do. They can only make requests. He said that quite often there will be late passengers….he said that the first thing boarding crews do is tell the passenger that there is nothing they can do once the door is shut. (He said that this is to persuade the passenger not to pursue this matter any further since if they easily reopened doors….then everyone would request it.
If however, the passenger persists, then its up to the boarding crew as to whether they want to request a delay from the pilot. He said that this depends on a lot of things. First, the boarding crew. He said that some crew members have soft hearts and will contact the pilot more readily than others. He said that other crew members are either jerks or are afraid of the pilots and won’t generally make the call.
INTERESTINGLY, HE SAID THE SITUATION HAS A HUGE IMPACT. If someone is considerate and really needs to get on the flight….generally the crew will do whatever they can. He said that if a passenger is an *******….they are more likely not to help out.
He said that the further along the plane is….the more likely the pilot wont’ allow the late arrival to board. For example….if the jetway doors are just closing….no big deal. But, if the plane is lining up on the runway…..not a chance in hell.
He said that the pilots, since they are the final say so…..have a huge impact. Some pilots are more likely to okay the reopening than others. He also said that the amount of time spent loading can have an impact. If the plane has been sitting awhile…..many pilots don’t want to inconvenience the passengers any longer.
Bottom line….he said that it happens often and is discretionary with the pilot.
I told him specifics that the teams are groups of two that are followed by camera crews.
He laughed and said that has never happened but he SPECULATED that the couple approached….were told no and they persisted. He SPECULATED that they probably informed the boarding crew they were in a nationally televised race. He said that if he was in that position….he would have called the pilot and explained what was occurring. He said that most of the pilots he has dealt with would probably get a kick out of having a film crew on a tv show boarding their plane. He said that it would be one of the better nonemergency excuses for getting the plane to reopen and allow the boarding.
I asked him if CBS officials could have an impact….he said “SURE”….but said that in such a time crunch….10 to 15 minutes…a CBS official would have the same affect as the racers. It’s the same story….just told by a different person. He said that the fact that someone was a “CBS OFFICIAL” would not have an impact on the decision, above and beyond what the racers were saying except again…the whole, “Camera crew, national tv” story is pretty good.
I asked if CBS could have influence over the management of the airline that could affect the situation. He said it would be difficult since the timing is so short……but it would certainly be possible, since the airlines have authority over their own planes and if the head honchos wanted a delay….there will be a delay.……its just not an area that he would be privy to and has never seen it happen.
ANYWAY…that is the information that I obtained. Hope it adds something or answers something.

Yeah I have heard similar things from various sources--about the pilot's discretion--but I think either way, something that doesn't happen under normal circumstances happened. Perhaps being a sponsor of the show American Airlines wanted to look good and not heartless, whatever the case it still seemed fishy. There were other things throughout the season that did as well, and they didn't always fall in favor of one team or another, but at some point you kind of wonder about how much of the race just happens as it happens, or how much the editing and fact that there are film crews etc...changes the outcome. And even perhaps the producers pulling for one team or another because of ratings. I didn't hope Uchenna and Joyce would loose, just wanted to make sure whoever won did so because they were good racers. Rob and Amber had plenty of help from strangers along the way. Perhaps we have all become so skeptical because of all the other over manipulated shows out there. Are antenna are up for anything that smacks of being contrived. That is why I would love to have CBS do a behind the scenes show for us.

The Amazing Race is a great show, but let's be real here they've always tried to make sure that the teams stay close so it's more exciting. But in no way do I think they try to make sure that one team wins over another, the producers don't care who wins, just that it's exciting. Besides people act like Romber lost because Joychenna got on that flight, no it was just that both teams had an even chance from that point. Romber lost because they got a cab driver that didn't know where the cigar store was. For once Romber didn't get a big fan who knew where everything was and wanted to be their personal guide. I don't think the producers were trying to make sure anyone won over anyone else, they just wanted it to be exciting all the way to the finish, and in that I think they did a good job.
