Dish Adds Fourth Polish-Language Channel

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2005--EchoStar Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: DISH) announced today that its DISH Network(TM) satellite television service has added Kino Polska, a Polish-language channel which features a broad heritage of Polish cinema spanning history, culture and art. Kino Polska brings the total number of Polish channels available through DISH Network to four, the most of any pay-TV company in the United States. The addition also reinforces DISH Network's efforts to offer the most comprehensive international programming and content. DISH Network has over 100 channels of international programming available in over 25 languages, including Russian, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese.
The channel will offer eight to 10 movies per day. Additionally, Kino Polska offers documentaries about famous Poles in the series "The Portrets," historical programs including "In Illusion," as well as "Kinoffteka," a program dedicated to the work of Polish independent artists and filmmakers. In those and other segments, movie enthusiasts can watch feature-length movies, chronicles, documentaries, animations, video clips, and independent productions, which make Kino Polska the only TV station broadcasting Polish cultural heritage in its full variety and richness.

In Poland we don't talk bad about Americans. Are most likeable nation for Poles. We imigrating to USA we like opportunity and we aprietate it so much, and it is really pain to read so low miserable comments. Our nation is one of three who are pro American in all world except Philipines and one country in Africa.
Some American asked me in past that is it Poland in Texas ? Most of High School graduates dont even know what countries are in Europe. SOme says that YOU dont have to know nothing about EU because you have all goodees in USA but generally these are called IGNORANTS. Maybe it is not your foulth because teachers don't teach you to be hungry for knowledge about geography and history of world, you dont have ability in USA to watch world news , in Canada they have BBC WOrld news , here in USA even CNN International is not in offer, your MTV or VH1 dont offfer European Australian music to be broadcasted , only corect American mostly RNB is apprietatet so much, (on top 20 USA there is like 2 3 rock music songs - I cant understand that). So please before you try to be funny and spread stupid jokes about STUPID POLLACKS pleas do some research about this country, whether we are really sinonim of STUPIDITY for you.
I love both countries I have both citizenships but I dont get it sometimes how this can be possible to make fun of other nation, at least i dont do that..

I've been to Gdasnk and Gdynia. I had a few g-days at Gdansk and Gdynia. It is a beautiful country with friendly people. You see I can separate a JOKE from reality. I swear everyone is LOOKING to be offended about something!

No one really thinks badly of Poland. America was founded as a Protestant country, so most Catholic nationalities had slurs heaped on them. WOP or Guines for the Italians, Micks for the Irish, Spics for the Spanish and so on. (The French just seems to stay away) Some of the joking still lives on, but really isn't meant in a bad way. Besides, its mostly moved on towards Blonds now anyhow.

The guy said he was offended by the Polish jokes and you denigrate him for his reaction. I found the Polish jokes over the top as well. It's amazing to me how people who tell ethnic jokes are outraged when the people who are the object of the joke say they are offended. I'm sure most Polish people love it when people tell jokes about them . . .

McDonald's was my comment...
Maybe it came out the wrong way - but Marcyjok (above) in his first "i am offened" post sound pretty p*ssed off..
So to make him feel better maybe.. and try and change a subject (as i tried previously to lighten up the thread with a "jews" joke.. (being jewish personally)) after garypen made the original joke towards poles (which i personally found pretty inappropriate .. this is a Dishnetwork forum here..and NOT lets go with "ethnic" joke! .. even if no harm was intended .. maybe would be better in some "Pottpurri" (or whatever it spelled) forum or something like that...
So i mentioned McDonalds... Not a Big Deal.... Actually do not even think it was that offensive as "ethnic" jokes...
It's a TRUE fact (and we should try to do something about it...and also be aware of it) that obesity / McDonalds / etc .. and maybe some artificial stuff that they put in our foods contributes to the FACT that North Americans (..and that's NOT just Americans, but Canadians as well .. of ANY Ethnical background i might as well also add) are the MOST overweight / fat / or whatever one want to call it .. in the WORLD...
And the McDonalds movie.... just a Movie to show what those types of meals DO to us.. and to make us aware of the THIS big problem...
No offence was intended...
.....
Now ... how about another Russian channel DISH?
Maybe RTR Planeta.....
Or Ukrainians might enjoy Inter channel....

My original joke was at the expense of LANGAUAGE. I was making light of the fact that Polish and polish are spelled the same. I hope it didn't offend any linguistic purists. On second thought, those greasy-haired, smelly, hairy, toothless, dumb linguistic purists can just go back to where they came from.

There was no real need for it... and as you can see, it DID offend some...

The problem Darkman is the first one (Polish TV, TV polish - pronounciation differences) is a joke intended to be funny (except to those waiting to be offended by something...anything) and the the other is a statement of fact (as you point out) intended to offend in retaliation. One joke, other attack to offend. Get the difference? Rationalize as you may, there is no pairity.
You suggset redirecting the anger by picking on another ethic group? Even if it's your own (Me with "spic" jokes and you with Jew jokes) does not change the initial problem and, if ethic jokes are REALLY a problem, this actually agravates the situation by allowing more people just waiting to be offended get a chance to show that they also don't have a sence of humor. I know some hispanics that think the term "hispanic" is offensive and same goes for "latino"--I tell them to lighten up too! Any more NOTHING is funny to ANYONE because SOME ONE just MIGHT be offended! SCREW THAT! Just enjoy the joke laugh and move on...
