Question Circuit City has never heard of the HD Tivo!!

I ordered the HD Tivo from Circuit City 2 weeks ago. The salesman said it was on backorder, but I went ahead and ordered it anyway. I called today and the person found my order, but said her system showed that this receiver did not show up anywhere in their system and that it might have been discontinued. I tried to explain to her that this was a brand new receiver, but she was no help.

Has anyone had any problems with actually receiving the HD Tivo from Circuit City?

I got mine online two 1/2 weeks ago from CC. There's a couple of threads about ordering from CC over at http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...?s=&forumid=36

Hmm, interesting, my rudimentary search of CircuitCity.com came up with nothing on an HD Tivo; a Google search came up nothing, not even a cached search.

On Cnet.com their preview of this product doesn't mention that it has been released yet.

So, do you have a receipt or order confirmation number from Circuit City? From your post, it appears you didn't pay for anything yet, you just had a salesman place an internal order that brings the unit into his store's inventory for you, is that correct? If I were you, I would go to the store in person and get to the bottom of this, bring with you any documentation you have to support you. Escalate it to the store's manager if necessary, but if it hasn't been released yet, I don't think there is anything they'll be able to do short of giving you a courtesy credit of some type for misleading you.

To find it all you need to do is select 'Satellite TV Systems' from the left hand column the 'Satellite Receivers' to get this pagehttp://www.circuitcity.com/searchresults.jsp?c=1&b=g&u=c&catoid=-9712&department=Satellite+TV+Systems&qp=0311531243 795&dupDept=null&m=0 which at the very bottom has the DirecTivo HD receiver, that's how I got mine, when it was in stock.

I ordered mine on line. Paid for 2nd air, and they shipped it over nite air.

No problems other than they got the tax rate wrong.

On a Thousand Dollar item that can ad up. Watch em.

I actually work on the sales floor at Circuit City. Our store does not have the HD Tivo in stock, not is the item even listed in our store inventory as an item soon to be carried.

I suspect that for the time being, this unit may be avaialble only thru CC.com, and perhaps at only a very few retail stores: after all, look at how few units have become available. If Circuit City did not limit the channels to order the DTV HR10250, how many more of us would be more and more unhappy as we waited for the HD Tivo we ordered?

So I guess large retailer or small, most outlets do not have many units to parcel out to an eagerly waiting public. (Since I'm one of the eagerly waiting, I'm as impatient as the rest of you...)

The HD10-250 on CC's web site for a while would show as "Available" when they had a few to ship and an order could be placed on-line until they sold the number they actually had received. They then shipped those that were ordered on that or the next day. They did not accept orders for any they did not actually have physical untis to fill. It was a pretty hit and miss (mostly miss) propostition as to whether you were lucky enough to hit it at the right time (I was not).

It's been well over a week or two since any have become available through CC in that manner. A couple of times I was able to hit the site when it said "Available" but when I got a bit further into the ordering process they indicated they were out and would I like to be notified via e-mail when they became available again. I did call the toll-free number one of those times and they said I could go into the store and place an order that would be filled the next time they became available. When I went to the store to do that, they said I could pre-order at the store but it would only be filled once their store started receiving them - it would not be filled out of any stock that may become available on-line (which is SPECIFICALLY what I had asked the CSR when I called).

Anyway, that was my experience. I'm guessing from the way things are going that shipments that CC had been getting for on-line ordering have trickled or stopped at this point. I've been checking on-line dozens of times a day for the last couple of weeks now to no avail.

I've almost resigned myself to having to wait for one of my two pre-orders to be filled, which they are saying will be the end of June. Aside from a couple of in-store sightings at some Best Buys in Virginia, I haven't even read on the boards lately about orders being filled recently.

Looks like more waiting. If anyone hears any different, maybe post something?

Good luck on your quest.

I'm going to go to the store tomorrow to see If I can straighten things out. If not, I will just have to cancel the order and go to Ultimate Electronics or BB to order it.

I'll let you know what they say.

I got mine from Circuit City in mid-May, but I found that I just had to leave their web page running all day and refresh it every once in a while. Occasionally one would come into stock and I was fortunate enough to grab one. Not a great solution for people waiting for theirs, I know.....

The salesman I ordered it from said they are expecting some in mid to late June. The people at the service desk still didn't know what I was talking about. I'm going to call around to some other stores to see if they can get it sooner. Otherwise, I'll just have to wait it out with CC.

Thanks for all the replies.

My CC Story

Here is my Story of ordering online from CC. I think I must have gotten very lucky....

This was from May 12th

Description
DTV HR10250 Hughes DIRECTV® HD Receiver/Digital Video Recorder (Up to 200 hours)
Qty:1 Shipped:
05/12/2004 Carrier FedEx, Tracking #XXXXXXX7369 -Premium Air
Qty:1 Ordered:
05/12/04 09:53:31 AM

What happened was that I read online yesterday that CC had some available online, when I checked the site it was true. I added one to my cart but being at work I never got a chance to complete the order. Today I went in to my cart, placed the order got an order number and FedEx shipping Number.

I ordered one from Circuit City too. I was originally told 1 week, then told 4-6 weeks, then told it was discontinued. I finally gave up and asked for my $200 deposit to be refunded. I'll wait until it shows up in the store.

If you live on Long Island try PC Richards they have many in their warehouse. They might make u pay and extra 100 for installation but if u need an extra line for the second sat. input it is worth it.
