Agreed about the upcoming F1 finale in wide screen!
I guess the NASCAR replays will be in HD but most of their content is SD?

A number of these new "HD" stations are often placeholders for future content.
It isn't really that different than a local network affiliate of, say, NBC. The majority of the broadcast day is SD until a network HD feed comes in at night for a few hours.

WoooHOOOO!!
This is something I was excited about getting. Yeah, it's not full blown HD yet, but it already looks better than what we had. I'm also looking forward/hoping for a full screen version of the F1 finale this weekend.
Btw, for those of you that didn't think this was coming, you should have paid better attention around here. It has been mentioned that SpeedHD was listed in www.zap2it.com TV listings last week. That is usually a good tip that something is on the way. However, I wasn't holding my breath either. I thought it was too good to be true.

Actually its all HD, if you catch practice, qualifying, etc highlights from Speed on ESPN, they are HD.
TSN uses the Speed HD backhaul for all their coverage in Canada and they have always gotten everything in HD.

Almost everything Speed records in relation to racing events is done with HD capable cameras. This includes ARCA, Grand-Am and NASCAR events. I'm sure 'they'll' surprise us with some coverage between now and Feb.... that Grand-Am race at the end of January just might be HD too

Just got an email back from Speed TV, asking about the last race of the season. Here is their response:
Although produced in HD, Formula 1 races are not available to any
broadcaster in that format. We hope that situation will change in 2008.
The F1 event from Brazil will be shown in upconverted 16x9 aspect ratio.

Finally. I mean, ESPN2 has been showing Nascar in HD for half a year. (Although I can hardly watch it any more. I just fast-forward to the interesting stuff.)
They BETTER show F1 in HD. And they should bring back Austrailian V8 supercars and WRC...... I mean even if they showed them at 2:00am so I could record them, instead of ANOTHER repeat of Inside Nascar......
THAT would make it worthy again. Maybe ESPN can pick those up.....

Hi. Can you show me the source of TSN (I think you had typo calling it RSN) saying they will have F1 in HD in 2008?
They have shown F1 in widescreen all year I understand, but I did not know they had said HD was a go for 2008?

....so basically it'll be shown just like the Fox races earlier this season?
That's cool....

Not being a NASCAR fan, it's gonna be a LOOONG time before this channel has any actual value to me.
I don't have anything against the NASCAR fans, just stating the obvious about where SPEED will spend their production dollars first.

I doubt they will spend much on NASCAR HD either. This season they used the FOX HD equipment when FOX was carrying the races. Otherwise, it does not appear as though they are spending any money on HD at all.

I've been waiting for F1 in HD for years! We won't be getting the 2007 finale in HD, but I'll settle for the entire 2008 season being completely in HD!

This is great news! At least the SD is much better than the SD channel.
Also, F1 is broadcast by the FOM. Speed, nor anyone else, has control over this broadcast. The FOM feed is 16:9 SD. I have not heard anything about the FOM using HD cameras for next season. I hope they do but I'm not optimistic.

I was pretty sure I'd heard that the FIA produces F1 races in HD for the F1 Films unit. Let me hunt
