Dish 301 reciever new software feature?
My Dish 301 reciever recently got the P207 software, and I noticed a new feature about it.
I have a VCR in my TV hookup that supports PSIP TV data. Apparently, this new receiver software version outputs PSIP data from the program guide. Did anyone else notice this? |
I thought PSIP data only existed in ATSC transmissions.
So, what kind of VCR we talking about here, AND a 301 does NOT do ATSC (although it will pass it through when turned off). |
Well, my VCR recieves program data from my analog antenna hookup when I tune to the available channels. I don't know what kind of data this is. (RDS perhaps?) Now, when I have my VCR tuned to the channel used by my reciever, pressing my VCR's display button throws the usual text on the screen (Play mode, time, etc..) along with the program data on the bottom. This data is exactly the same as the ones in the EPG.
BTW, I have an RCA DVD/VCR. |
Interesting to say the least.

It would be part of the VChip information that is broadcast along with analog TV. I've noticed it for many years on one of my sets (that is designed to give you the title of the program along with the rating when a program is blocked). I wish that it always gave that title information - seems a waste to throw away data one has.
But nevertheless, it isn't PSIP - which is an NTSC digital feature. It is just VChip information. JL |
So thats it then. P207 apparently outputs VChip info along with the signal to the VCR and/or TV that supports this feature.
|
my 301.13s pass along the vchip info for some time now.
|
My 301 and now 501 passes along whatever VChip/VBI information that the program provider passes along.
