Purchase additional receivers

I'm wondering - if I purchase additional receivers, say from eBay or whatever, I've currently got a 6x8 multiswitch - will I need to pay DirecTV more to hook another receiver up, or can I do it myself and just tell them the access card number?

You can hook them up yourself... you only need to call an installer if you're ordering a box from DirecTV.

Unless you have the ability to run coax I would have Directv do it.Also you will probably have to buy new cards for used receivers.Good Luck!.:) :welcome_s


plus with used receivers can come used problems.You can also call Directv and see if they can make you a deal on a new one.

Can you run the wires where they need to go?

Coax isn't hard to install - I did all the line runs to each of my rooms, the D* installer was actually impressed with the job I did. And yes, I've got extra room on the multiswitch, it's a 6x8 with 5 output sources currently, so I've got room for three more.

I've been noticing that you can get D11s on eBay for around $10-30 each, new with Access Card, so I'm thinking of taking that route to add in extra TVs.

I appreciate the help, especially with being new to the forums and to D*.

You can most likely get one for free from D*. Why not try it? Also if you log into your online account at directv.com and go to the upgrade equipment section there are often deals you can get including free receivers. If you haven't gotten a free/super deal from D* in 6 months then I'd bet a good amount you'd get an old D11 for free from them. Then you don't have to worry about any of it.

If it's used, as in the card was on someone else's account, you must get a new card, which is $20. New standard receivers are now $69 plus delivery and handling of $19.95. If you bought it at retail, installation is free.
